How do I re-import purged/exported data into TNG?

Postby Belinda Frick » Mon Nov 15, 2010 2:32 pm

It is not possible to import data into TNG without the Datatex Buffer being connected to the TNG PC.

Overview:

Once call capacity is reached, it will purge the oldest calls until only 80% call capacity is in use. You can view this on the 'Call List'Page (right-hand corner above call listing).

If your calls were purged because the call capacity was reached you can increase it by logging into TNG and click on the General Settings - Data Configuration and increase the "Percentage of Available Memory to reserve" set to for example 90%. This is the maximum setting.

ALSO SEE: How many calls can my TNG handle?

First increase the call capacity before doing the import, else it will be auto purged again.
If your call capacity is enough, you do not need to configure it.

TNG Standard version 1.0.5.6 or newer also provide the File Reader as an alternative to Serial or Network communications. When selecting this option you also need to specify a path and filename or filename mask using the * character.

    Required:

    • TNG version 1.0.5.6 or newer.
NOTE: To upgrade TNG(with buffer) your annual subscription must be up to date - see TNG License Agreement page.
    • Plugin: PTNGExport.dll
      PTNGExport.rar
Save attached. Unrar, password is 'datatex'. Copy to the tng folder:
      C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\plugins

    Please Note:

While running the import, the live data will not be imported live. If you use a buffer with a serial connection, the calls will be buffered. If you use a network connection (buffer or not), the calls currently made while the import is taking place will not be logged. NOTE: If you PABX has the feature to buffer calls, depending on how many it can buffer you might not loose calls.

    a) The records for the current call data will be buffered until the buffer capacity is reached. The buffer can store up to 3000 call records. This applies for a serial connection to the PABX.
    b) If a network connection is used, you need to import the calls after hours else you will loose calls.

NOTE: The export files does not contain a pin code. You will not be able to pull user reports on the imported data from export files.

Procedure:

  • Before you start you need to group the files you wish to re-import in a folder.

NOTE: Older versions of TNG stored the export.txt file in a folder with the date as folder name. Therefore if you need to import more that one of these files, you will have to copy it and rename the export.txt to have the actual folder name as file name, for example 20080901.txt.

Exported files is in the folder 'C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\export'.
Purged files is in the folder 'C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\purged'.

You can move all the export/purged files you wish to import to for example:
    'C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\export\import'.

  • Log into TNG - General Settings - Communication Configuration

  • Make notes of the current configuration as we need to revert back to it after the import, namely
    - Communication Mode (if File Reader selected also the file path, if Network the IP and Port) and
    - Plugin name.

  • Now you need to change the settings to import the export files:

Communication Mode - Choose the File Reader option
File Path - Enter the location of the files you wish to re-import
    (for example 'C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\export\July2009\*.txt')

Note: If you have to import a huge list of files and you first want to test if it is working before leaving it to complete the processing, just put one file in the folder. Get call detail of one record and check in TNG if it has been processed. If this was successful, simply copy the other files into the folder and let it process.

    Plugin - PTNGExport.dll
    Click on APPLY.

  • In the TNG logs it will display "Added to list" for each file in the file path location.

TNG logs is accessed from the 'Home Page' and selecting the 'View Logs' icon. Select the date as 'Today'.
    Code: Select all
    2009-09-04 13:25:48:080 [1.0.6.5] -  [FRP] CDR File "C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\processed\july\backup2009-08-03.txt"
    Code: Select all
    added to list

  • Once the file has been processed, it will log "processed" and the file name in the TNG log. Any files matching the mask will be processed. It will be moved to the Processed folder (C:\Program Files\Datatex\TNG\Processed) 01h00 at night.

  • To check if import is taking place, go to the 'Call List' page. The number of records (top left hand corner) will increase. Only the 'newest' calls as per dateand time will list on the Call List page.

  • NB: Once all the data is in TNG:

    • Configure TNG to use either serial or network connection to the PABX,
      depending on your original setup.
    • Change plugin back to the plugin originally used.
    • Check on the 'Call List' page that your live/bufferred calls are loading.
