How do I re-install/move TNG?

Postby Belinda Frick » Mon Nov 15, 2010 2:40 pm

NOTE: This steps is for TNG up to version 1.0.7.7.

Required:

The TNG install CD,
The Product Serial number (on the white box of the TNG package),

Note: If you do not have an install CD, please download the install from our website -
http://www.datatex.co.za -> downloads -> TNG for Asterisk (full installation)

For Windows: Installations on Windows based PC's, select the 'TNG for Asterisk Windows version 1.0.7.0'. When the installation process starts, you will be prompted to select your installation type, select the 'Standard' option - if you are not using an Asterisk PABX.

For Linux: Only select the 'TNG for Asterisk Linux version 1.0.7.0' if your installation is on a Linux based PC. When the installation process starts, you will be prompted to select your installation type, select the 'Asterisk 30day evaluation - Register to purchase' option to install the TNG for Asterisk version.

There are 2 options to re-install the TNG software:

  • The old TNG folder is still available.

    • Install TNG on the new PC.

NOTE: If installing TNG on the 'old/same' PC, you need to make a backup of the TNG folder beforehand(stop the tng service before you make the backup, make the backup and then start the TNG service again). Uninstall TNG with the 'unins000.exe' program located in 'C:\Program Files\Datatex\TNG' and then delete the TNG folder. Once deleted, Install the TNG software.

To install TNG(with buffer) you will require your product serial number (on the white box).
Also see: Where do I see the product serial for TNG?

    • Stop the service (Windows) or daemon (Asterisk) on the new TNG PC.
See: How do I stop/start the TNG service in Windows?
See: How do I stop and start the TNG service on LINUX?

    • Delete the TNG folder on the new pc.

    • Stop the TNG service on the old TNG PC.

    • Once the service is stopped, copy the old TNG folder to the new PC (C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\). This will ensure that your live TNG call data is transferred to the new TNG aswell as your logs/history files and licensing. If you copy only the 'data' folder across you will not have the complete TNG installation transferred to the new PC. NOTE: You can only copy the 'old' database within the same TNG version, for example you cannot install TNG 1.1.1.8 or newer and copy the files from 1.0.x.x.

If you wish to move a TNG version 1.0 and upgrade to version 1.1, you need to install the 1.0 version and re-register it. Once licensed, you can upgrade to version 1.1 - refer to forum post: Upgrading TNG (with buffer) v1.0.7.6 to TNG v1.1.1.8

If you require you Phonebook entries, also copy the 'Destinations.txt' file from the old TNG folder to your new installation's TNG folder.

    • Start the TNG service or daemon.
See: How do I stop/start the TNG service in Windows?
See: How do I stop and start the TNG service on LINUX?

    • TNG will be unlicensed.

    • License the TNG.

      • TNG version up to 1.0.7.7:

Create the registration file and e-mail the file to register the software on the new PC.
The automated system will reply to the e-mail address from where you sent in the file.

On the TNG Home page, choose the icon in the centre of the screen that shows the scales (if you mouse over, it will say License Agreement page). Do step 1 and 2 to create the registration file and to e-mail it. The automated system will reply with a lic file which is loaded with step 3 and 4.

      • TNG version from 1.1 onwards:

TNG Home page, click on 'License Agreement' icon

Scroll down to the bottom of the page

do step 1 to 4 to re-register TNG.
  • The old TNG folder is not available.

Install TNG with the original TNG CD (or a release in the year the client originally installed it).

To install TNG(with buffer) you will require your product serial number (on the white box).
Also see: Where do I see the product serial for TNG?

Once installed, please register the TNG software.

How do I move my TNG Linux to a Windows PC?

  • See requirements for TNG install.
  • Use steps above for install.
NOTE: If you install TNG for Asterisk on another PC than the original installation, it will register as a new TNG for Asterisk installation.
  • Note file paths for TNG data:
    Linux file path: /opt/datatex/tng/data/
    Windows File Path: C:\Program Files\datatex\tng\data
