ONYX is a standalone voice recording system, therefore we do not restrict the user that has access to ONYX. ONXY has a feature where a recording can be deleted. To restrict this feature, Datatex will rely on the Windows file system.
The IT Department responsible for the company's access/restrictions must configure this.
Requirements :
- Windows XP or 2000 installed on a NTFS as the file system.
- The recordings need to be stored on a file system that is formatted to NTFS.
- Disable the delete permission for the folder where the recordings are stored.
The path is displayed in ONYX under Settings in the Recording Path section for 'Path":
This will restrict people from deleting recordings.
NOTE: For different Windows version and/or access restrictions based on site policies, this setting will not be an option.
To test if your Windows setup allows you to create files and modify them, but not delete it. Setup the folder as described, navigate to the folder, create a file and then try to delete it. If the delete is unsuccessfull, then you Windows access is setup correct and ONYX should also not be able to delete.
NOTE that 'OnyxRecordingCore.exe.' runs as user system and this is the access you must try and simulate, as this service is making the recording (writing out recording file and details) and handles the delete function(deleting the file and removing its entry in the ONYX database, which is the 'listing.lst' file). Do not do the test logged in as a Windows user.
The 'ONYX.exe' runs as the user logged into Windows, in this example 'Odette'. It is the ONYX interface you use for configuration, etc.(righ-click on the icon in the bottom right-hand corner and select show to access it). Even if 'ONYX.exe' is closed, then the 'OnyxRecordingCore' service is still running and making recordings.
