ONYX, why is my "email" button greyed out?

Postby Belinda Frick » Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:21 am

Overview:

When you e-mail a recording from ONYX, the ONYX e-mail program
opens Outlook and uses it to e-mail the recording. Therefore
Outlook needs to be in place (installed and sending e-mails),
before using the ONYX e-mail program.

Required:

Please use at least ONYX 1.2.0.0

Use the ONYX version 1.2.0.0,
file name "onx-onyx-update-1_2_0_0.exe",
it is available on the internet:
[www.datatex.co.za -> downloads -> upgrades -> onyx]

OnyxEmail.exe

The ONYX e-mail program is included in onx-onyx-update-1_2_0_0.exe
Overview:

The e-mail button is only available:

after you have selected the recording that you want to e-mail
ALSO SEE: E-mailing with ONYX.

and if the ONYX e-mail facility is running on your PC.

The icon for the ONYX e-mail program (white envelope with red stamp)
is displayed in the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

When ONYX is opend, it checks in the ONYX folder for the ONYX
e-mail program(OnyxEmail.exe), if the program is not present,
the e-mail button will be greyed out.

Therefore, if you opened ONYX and then close the OnyxEmail program
while ONYX is still running, the e-mail button will not be greyed out.

If you now right-click and show on the ONYX icon, the e-mail button
will be greyed out. If you open the OnyxEmail, and then right-click
on the ONYX icon and show, the e-mail button will now be available.

Conclude:

You need to run the OnyxEmail program to use the "email" button.

Make sure that the OnyxEmail and ONYX program is in the ONYX folder.
This way the OnyxEmail program will always startup when ONYX is opened.
Once you select your recording, you will be able to e-mail it.

Use only one shortcut to startup your ONYX.

For example if you have it in your startup and also have a shortcut
on your desk top.

It should both point to "C:\Program Files\Datatex\Onyx\onyx.exe".
