Select the sound card for recording in Windows:

Note: When sound/soundcard settings in place, restart the PC to ensure it does not default back. Check if settings still in place.
To test that there are no Windows sound issues, do a playback using the Windows Media Player:

Windows Vista: START -> MUSIC, click on one of the sample files to see if it plays back (you will need speakers on the PC or a headset).

NOTE: If you can play back the sample music file in Windows, then proceed to make test recordings.
