...operating system...failed to detect...USB device properly

My ONYX gives the error message "Your operating system has failed to detect the USB device properly".

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a ONYX error. This is an error produced by the Windows operating system error messages.

Try the USB tap on another USB port on this PC or another PC. The USB port might be faulty.

For ONYX to work the USB tap must be detected by Windows. You need to check under START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> DEVICE MANAGER -> UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS. It must list there. If not then either there is a problem with:

  • USB port

  • Power saving mode is enabled:

START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> DEVICE MANAGER ->
    UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS.

USB Tap must be listed. Right-click and select properties, go to power saving. Make sure "Allow computer to turn-off device to save power" is disabled, else it will disable the USB port if no data received for some time.

Note: If the USB cable is unplugged and plugged in again or if the PC is restarted, then the port will be enable until no data is sent via the port which will put into power saving again. You still need to disable this functionality else the problem will re-occur.

  • the Windows driver for the USB device(default driver installed with Windows)

  • the USB cable might be faulty.
Try a USB cable of a working device.

  • the USB tab could be faulty
If you have another working USB tap, you can check if it is detected using the same PC and cable to see if the USB Tap is the problem.

  • To ensure that the USB port of the PC is not faulty, please insert another working USB device and check that it is detected.
