What causes scrambled data?

Postby Belinda Frick » Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:33 pm

Scrambled data could be caused by:

  • The Serial Cable:

    • The wrong pin outs is used for cable
    • Some of the wires may have come loose from the pins and isn't making contact
    • The cable is damaged
    • The cable is not shielded, picks up electrical interference
    • The cable is too long
    • The manuals usually recommend 2m,
but if shielded it can go up to 10m.

  • The Buffer:

    • Check that the baud rate is correct
    • The setup of the buffer is incorrect
    • The buffer is faulty

  • The PABX Unit:

    • Your PABX unit has devices connected that causes an electrical interferance,
      (e.g. example lighting protection)
    • Your PABX unit is not shielded and picks up electrical or static interferance
    • There is an earth leakage or some other earthing problem

  • General: Interference :

The cable running over flourescent lights
Power lines in or behind the walls, close to the PABX unit, or the PC,
or Cables running from PABX Unit to the PC and/or buffer.

Suggestions:

  • Make sure your equipment has no earth leaks.
  • Make sure your cables are shielded.
ALSO SEE: How to make a shielded serial cable.
  • Make sure that there are no static or electric interferances from other devices or sources.
  • TOPAZ:
Put PABX3 on a PC closer to the PABX Unit (then you can use a shorter cable) and send the Topaz data over the network.
    TNG:
TNG can be access from any PC on the network. You can install TNG on a PC close to the PABX and then access TNG from any where on the network via the TNG web interface.
