Before splitting the cable, first connect it to your PABX
unit and ensure that the PABX is giving off a data string
and that PABX3 is receiving the data through the comport
and your settings in PABX3 is correct, and that plugin is
translating the call data correct.
Options to split the cable from the PABX unit:
Options 1:
Unplug the cable from the PABX to to PC.
Open the plug on the PC side, and connect the wires to
another plug. This plug will be used to connect the 2nd PC
and the original plug the first.
Once configuration is done, re-connect the PABX and the PC.
In this case you will have your original cable and a
straight through cable connected to your second device.
Disadvantage:
The system will be down while the cable is being
configured and tested.
Options 2:
You don't have to unplug the cable while configuring
the new cable connections.
Configure a cable with a plug that will fit into the
PC side of the cable.
The wires connected in this plug must be connected to two
seperate plugs, into which your two serial cables will be plugged.
In this case you will have two straight through cables connected
to your original serial cable.
Advantage:
Limit the system down-time. The system will only be down,
while you connect/plug in the plug into the existing one.
If the cable is configured incorrect, your original cable will
still be working (and therefore original setup).
