Re-Installation of TOPAZ / Moving TOPAZ to another PC

Postby Belinda Frick » Fri Nov 19, 2010 11:13 am

I want to re-install / move my TOPAZ.

It is always recommended to make a full system backup!

If you upgraded your operating system,
please make sure that your Windows user login has:
Rights to install software.
The user has full control over the datatex folder.
ALSO SEE: Access rights to run TOPAZ under XP and 2000

Note: BDE does not run on a 64-bit operating system. Therefore you cannot install TOPAZ on a 64-bit system. Datatex does not support this.

Follow these steps:

  • Make a backup of your "C:\Program Files\Datatex" directory.

  • Make a backup of your
    "C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Datatex Gems" directory.

  • Make a backup of these shortcuts.

    a. C:\Windows\Desktop\Topaz.lnk
    b. C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\pabx3.lnk

Now you can update or re-install windows etc.

  • Download the Bde.exe:

    • If you have a TOPAZ CD, navigate to the BDE folder and run the 'setup.exe'.
    • Some technician copied the TOPAZ CD on the TOPAZ PC when they installed TOPAZ on it. Check if you have a copy on your TOPAZ PC.
    • http://www.datatex.co.za/support/db-bde-install-5_1_1.exe [about 4 MEG]
NOTE: this link will be deactivated in future as TOPAZ installations is not supported anymore.

    • Third party options to download BDE. NOTE: these links are not maintained by Datatex and might not be available at the time you access this post.
      • Try the internet for BDE install version 5.1.1 [http://www.bdesupport.com/deploy.htm]
select "by clicking here" from the "Certified installers" section,
download the install bde (not the upgrade) - its a about 7 MG.
Go to the BDE 5.1.1 section and download
"BDE 5.11 MSI Merge Module English Enterprise version (9,580,163 bytes)"
  • You will need the 'Topaz.ResetSerial.Install.exe':

    • If you have the TOPAZ CD you will find it in the EXTRAS folder.
    • Some technician copied the TOPAZ CD on the TOPAZ PC when they installed TOPAZ on it. Check if you have a copy on your TOPAZ PC.
    • If ResetSerial was ever run on you TOPAZ, there will be a 'reset.exe' file in the TOPAZ DATA folder.
    • Topaz.ResetSerial.install.rar
      Unrar, password is 'datatex'.
  • Uncompress the Bde.exe and run the Setup.exe to install.

  • Copy all the backup files to their original locations (or new PC).
    [The default is "C:\Program Files\Datatex\"]

  • Uncompress the Topaz.ResetSerial.Install.exe and copy the reset.exe to your Topaz\Data directory.
    [This is normally "C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Data"]

  • Run the Reset Program and click on OK to reset your serial number.

    See forum post:
    How do I re-register Topaz

  • Now run Topaz from your desktop shortcut. You will get a message that there is a problem with the TOPAZ registration.

  • In TOPAZ go to [Setup -> Properties -> License] and print the registration form.

  • Fax this new, as well as your original registration forms, to us with your Cell Number clearly written on the new registration form. We will issue you with a new registration number. This will be sms'ed to you (South-Africa only).

  • Enter your new registration number and click on Register.
