How do I setup TOPAZ CENTRE?

Postby Belinda Frick » Mon Nov 22, 2010 3:46 pm

You can use TOPAZ Centre to archive your calls from the TOPAZ
database to a separate database which you will be able to
access via the Topaz Centre.

Advantages:

These Archived databases will still act exactly as your live
database, except new calls will not be loaded into them.
This will also shrink the size of your live database,
which promotes better stability and
faster report generation.
Where do I find the TOPAZ Centre program?:

On the TOPAZ CD in the EXTRAS folder or
On the internet, http://www.datatex.co.za
[member area -> login -> topaz -> ],
download "topazcenter - TOPAZ Centre (for archiving TOPAZ data)".

How do I install TOPAZ Centre:

Run the "Topaz.Centre.Install-1.1.0.1.exe" or newer version
This will extract the TopazCenter.exe in C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz
Create a shortcut to run this from your desktop.
Open the TOPAZ Centre program.
Close the TOPAZ Centre program.
Open it again to make your archive.
How do I change the default file paths:

Run the TOPAZ Centre program. Click on "configure",
you will be able to view the following:

Live TOPAZ , (default filepath is C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz).
This is where your "live" TOPAZ is running.
Topaz Centre, (default filepath is C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\backup).
This is where a backup copy of your current TOPAZ data will be copied.
Archive, (default filepath is C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Archive).
This is were all your archive data will be accessed from by TOPAZ Centre.

How To Backup:

Close Topaz if it is running. (Neither a Master or Client version of Topaz
can be open while doing this archive.)
Run the TopazCentre.exe.
Select the date up to where you want to archive. (All calls from the start of
the database up to the selected date, including the selected date,
will be moved from your live database.)
Click on Backup up to Selected Date to start the backup. This may
take some time based on the speed of the hard drive and computer.
NOTE If something goes wrong during the archive procedure,
you can copy the contents of the backup folder back into the live Topaz
data folder to restore Topaz to the state before you started the archive.
Once archive completed it will display the following in the white information block:
"DONE!
END: ProcessTranFile()".

How To Access Data:

On the left side of the program you will see "Archives". In the list below
that you will see the list of backed up data. Each starting with 2004
(the year) followed by the incremental number for the backup. I.O.W 200435
is the 35th backup of the year 2004.

Click on the value and you will see the date of the backup appear on
the right under "Up to This Date"
If you are happy that is the correct date, then just double click on the
same entry and a Topaz will start up containing that data.
Now you can pull reports as normally.

Space:

If you have space issues on your TOPAZ PC, you can copy the archived folders
to a different location and when you need to acces it, copy it back for access
via TOPAZ Centre.

The default archive path is: C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Archive,
followed by the date (as explained above).
