Your "access violation error" can occur after upgrading your Topaz if one of the updates failed.
Steps to follow:
Close the Master TOPAZ and all Client TOPAZs. Please ensure that no TOPAZ is running in the background.
To make TOPAZ re-apply the changes do the following:
Where can I find the TOPAZ version file?:
In TOPAZ 1.6.0.3 and after the version is in the topaz.ini file.
All earlier versions use the Version file.
Open the "Version" file that is located in your Topaz Directory,
C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\
[Open with Notepad]
Edit the Version and set it to 1.2.0.0
Close and save the file.
Now just open Topaz.
You will get error messages, because TOPAZ is being
upgraded to your current version.
Click Abort on all error messages.
Now login into TOPAZ as "admin".
The upgrade will only be successful once you are able to log into TOPAZ, else the new version is never written to the "version file". Therefore the Windows user must have access to make these changes.
If the problem persists try the following:
- Access:
- Code: Select all
"DataPath=C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Data\
Make sure that the DATATEX folder is NOT read-only.
Make sure that the Windows user login has full access to the
DATATEX folder. ALSO SEE: Access rights to run TOPAZ under XP and 2000
Under Windows 98, domains will also give access problems.
Get the IT department to sort this out.
The Database:
You can try to re-index TOPAZ - How do I reindex a database file?
If you have a TOPAZ version earlier than 1.6.0.3, copy the TOPAZ.ini from the TOPAZ CD in the TOPAZ folder. Make sure that the file is not read-only, else it will not be able to write the new version to the file for the upgrade. Now change the version number in both "version files" as explained above.
Make sure your database files are present in C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Data.
If not retrieve it from your backup, else you can copy it from the TOPAZ CD in the DATA folder. This will create blank files and therefore your user details are lost.
You can import the pip files to retrieve your call data. ALSO SEE: How do I import pip files?
Make sure that data path points to 'C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz\Data' in the 'topaz.ini' (found in folder 'C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz'):
Try opening TOPAZ again.
