The user that runs Topaz, must have access to delete entries in the registry.
The Reset program tries to delete the Topaz registry entries, and since it fails,
Topaz reports an Unknown Serial number.
Once the security settings have been sorted out for the user,
and the reset is run again Topaz will report a new Serial Number.
This can also be caused by the Data folder of Topaz containing Read-only files.
Remove the read-only from the control files and try to reset again.
In Windows XP and 2000 the user login needs full access to the
Datatex folder. ALSO SEE: Access rights to run TOPAZ under XP and 2000
Once the lack of access rights has been sorted out do the reset again.
Windows XP / 2000 / NT:
- If Topaz was installed with the ADMINISTRATOR login for Windows and
you login as a USER in Windows it will also give this error. Because Topaz is
not installed in the registry for the USER. You have to do a reset serial
as the WINDOWS ADMINISTRATOR. Now all the USERS you have logged into Windows with
to run Topaz must also do reset serials. Login as the USER (or different users)
in WINDOWS and do the reset serial. Once the resets has been done, login for the
USER who will be using Topaz, open TOPAZ. If you cannot see a serial number in
TOPAZ under SETUP > PROPERTIES > LICENSE then the reset serial wasn't successfull
and there is still an access privilege problem. If you can see the serial number then
do a re-register of Topaz for this Windows User. Print the re-registration
form (logged in as the USER in Windows who will be using Topaz) and fax
to Datatex to re-register. Enter the new license number. Close TOPAZ.
Open Topaz again.
