Amethyst 1.5: unable to read partition table

Postby ZanePhelan » Mon Aug 20, 2012 11:03 am

Hi All,

I am got the following critical error notification from Amethyst:
[2012-08-15 13:12:15] Syslog log, : Aug 15 13:04:50 voicesrv kernel: ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed.
[2012-08-15 13:12:15] Syslog log, : Aug 15 13:04:50 voicesrv kernel: unable to read partition table

The server however is working fine and since then have not received any errors.

On checking the server calls are processing and function fine.

When running a drive info script i get the following info without any issue:

Do you have a script that i can run a disk check with on Amethyst?

Thanks

Please do the following in sequence listed:

  • Do a 'Check Available Disk Space' from AMETHYST webadmin and check if the same errors is still being logged.

  • If still the same errors it could be one of the archive drives causing it.

Please disconnect the USB archive drive and do the 'Check Available Disk Space' again:

    • If no errors, that drive is the problem. Please do a check under Windows.
    • If you still get the errors, you also need to remove the IDE drive (the archive drive in the removeable tray). To do this you need to scheduled it outside recording hours as you need to shut the server down to remove the archive drive. Once the server is started up again, do the 'Check Available Disk Space again':

If you still get errors, please attached the webadmin log file in rar format.

NOTE: on start up of AMETHYST it might do a system scan. If you have a screen on the server you will be able to follow the process.

Hi Belinda,

I will be going on site to do this tomorrow morning (10/10/2012)to investigate directly.

Could you please provide the script for Amethyst 1.5 that forces the archive to use an external USB archive drive?

Thanks

Zane, there is a previous post where I asked you to do a number of checks in sequence, please advise with result. This will help me with next steps.

I will also need the AMETHYST software version numbers.

If the IDE drive(archive drive in removable tray) is still connected, the USB drive will never be detected.

First do the test steps, if the USB drive is still not detected, only then load USB archiving update. This is only for use with AMETHYST 1.5 and the version you are on.

Download and unrar:
usb-archiving-update.rar
How do I upgrade with AMETHYST 1.5 /1.6?

Hi Belinda,
The drive is no longer giving the partition table error, but we went ahead and tested the removable archive drive and it tested fine, so the suspician is that the main 160GB drive is caused the issue.

The customer is going to source a new IDE HDD drive and then image the current main drive and then replace it.

As per my call to you, the 2TB usb drive was not working and we could not get it working, so we copied the contents of the current archive drive to the 2TB drive and re-installed it. Unfortunately we will need another script so that we can use the local archive HDD method instead of the usb method.

Could you please send me the script so we can return to local HDD archiving?

Thanks for your assistance.

AMETHYST 1.5 can archive either to USB or Harddrive or Dual. Those are the 3 options. You do not need a script. You just configure it to archive to HARDDRIVE - refer to forum post:

How do I install a new external/usb archive drive?

NOTE: Keep in mind the size of the archive drive(with AMETHYST version 1.5, you could have older hardware and it will not pick up the TERABYTE drives). You might have to partition it so that your AMETHYST server can pick it up(depending on the server specifications/kernel/etc.).
