AMETHYST 1.5: Critical error log:gem kernel: I/O error:dev

This indicates an error reading or writing to a hard drive.

The cables may be damaged, or the hard drive faulty.
Drive is most likely faulty.

The server will have to be returned to Datatex to be repaired
if the drive is faulty.


Technical details:
Code: Select all
dev 03 indicates the backup drive.
dev 08:01 - 08:0f indicates the main Amethyst drive (first SCSI or Serial-ATA drive)
dev 08:10 - 08:1f indicates a data drive (drive 2)
dev 08:20 - 08:2f indicates a data drive (drive 3)
dev 08:30 - 08:3f indicates a data drive (drive 4)
dev 08:40 - 08:4f indicates a data drive (drive 5)
dev 08:50 - 08:5f indicates a data drive (drive 6)
dev 08:60 - 08:6f indicates a data drive (drive 7)
dev 08:70 - 08:7f indicates a data drive (drive 8)
dev 08:80 - 08:8f indicates a data drive (drive 9)
dev 08:90 - 08:9f indicates a data drive (drive 10)
and so on until
dev 08:f0 - 08:ff indicates a data drive (drive 16)
for drives 17-26, the "08" is changed to "65".
dev 65:0 - 65:90 indicates a data drive (drives 17-26)
