Installing extra Exclusive drive space

Postby Belinda Frick » Thu Nov 18, 2010 12:01 pm

Please note: Datatex will not take responsibility for any errors, missed recordings etc that might occur due to hard drive problems or failures if the drive is not supplied by Datatex.

Requirements:

Use a drive with 5 year warrentee.

Steps to install extended storage space:

  1. Shutdown AMETHYST from the webadmin

  2. Install an unformatted unpartitioned RAW (preferably) SATA drive.
NB: The drive has to be brand new. Deleting the partition from an used drive will
    still contain data.

  3. Log into the webadmin.
Server settings (second Icon on top)
    Initialise Exclusive Drive
You'll be prompted with an option list of drives. The list will have entries like this:
    /dev/SDX
(Make a note of the X, we will be using this again later)

    Format

  4. Once the drive is formatted it will revert back to the Webadmin home screen.

  5. Wait 1 minute

  6. Go to Configure Sweeper
At the lower end of the screen there will be a dropdown box with

    Exclusive Drive 1 (Dropdown box)
    Exclusive Drive 2 (Dropdown box)

depending on the amount of exclusive drives

The last Exclusive Drive x (Dropdown box) will display NO ENTRY.

Select the dropdown and select the /dev/SDX1 where the X corresponds to
    the above mentioned formatted drive

If there is no drive to select, reinitialise the drive as mentioned above.

This tells the sweeper that there is another exclusive drive available and
what drive it is that it should use.

    Apply Changes.

  7. Go to the server settings screen (second icon on top)

View Available diskspace and see if the newly added drive displays there.
If it does, Bob's your uncle!
