USBClient 1.6 stops recording

  • The USBClient 1.6 runs as a service and has an interface.

    In the folder "C:\Program Files\datatex\USBClient"
    USBClient interface is "USBClient.exe"
    USBClient recording software "USBClientService.exe".

    1. The "USBClient.exe" is the icon display in the bottom right-hand corner.
      In Task Manager it is listed under 'Processes".

    2. The "USBClientService" service should always run, even if the Windows user is not logged in. As long as the services is in the 'Started' state recordings will always take place. You would get a user name "NO USER".

      You can check the service status under Control Panel or

      depending on your Windows version(and access level) in Task Manager under Services.

      It has been noted on some sites that the USBClient 1.6 stops recording on individual PC's. When investigating the Windows Events logs, "Service terminated unexpectedly" was logged.

      Please do the following setting for the USBClient service:
      START -> CONTROL PANEL -> Administrative Tools -> Services,
      right-click on the USBClient service and
      choose PROPERTIES
      select the RECOVERY tab
      under "First Failure", "Second Failure" and "Subsequent Failure"
      set it all to "Restart Service".
  • Also check that the USB port is not set to power saving. It will then be disabled and only start working if the PC is restarted or if the USB cable is unplugged and re-connected.

    START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> DEVICE MANAGER ->
    UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS.

    Unplug the USB cable.

    Right-click on the port it was connected on and select properties, go to power saving. Make sure "Allow computer to turn-off device to save power" is disabled, else it will disable the USB port if no data received for some time.

    Plug the USB cable in again.

    Best option is to disable power saving on all USB ports, in case it gets moved from one port to another by the client.

  • With CTI mode, you need the start/stop messages to trigger/terminate recordings. Ensure the ports are not blocked, else these messages will never be received.
