Installing IIS FTP server

NOTE: This is an example of IIS ftp for use with Remote AMETHYST.
For other uses you can configure your own file path and password.

Pre IIS installation

  1. Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Manage Computer
  2. Click on the + net to local users and groups
  3. Right Click on 'Users'
  4. New User
  5. Username : Amethyst
  6. Password : amt (note the lowercase)
  7. Unselect user must change password at next logon
  8. Select Password never expires and user cannot change password
  9. Click 'Member Of'
  10. Click on 'Add'
  11. type 'administrators' (this should be the local PC's administrators group. Not the DOMAIN admin)


Installing IIS FTP server

  1. Add Remove Programs
  2. Remove Windows Components
  3. Select IIS and click details

  • Tick FTP service and ‘OK’
  • It will ask for the Windows XP disk.

Once installed:

  1. Control Panel
  2. Administrative tools
  3. Internet Information Services
  4. Local Computer
  5. FTP Sites
  6. Right Click on Default FTP Site
  7. FTP site Tab
  8. Untick Enable Logging
  9. Security Accounts Tab
  10. Deselect Allow Anonymous Connections
  11. Home Directory TAB
  12. Select Directory located on this computer [C:\program files\Datatex\Amethyst\FTP\]
  13. Tick Read and Tick Write
  14. The rest of the settings can stay as default

    Troubleshooting:

    1. The Amethyst username and password must be configured on the IIS FTP server,
    2. The Windows user 'amethyst' must be in the Administrators group
    3. Ensure the correct IIS FTP IP address(PC IIS FTP is installed on)
      is being used in AMTCARDS.ini,
    4. Check that the FTP homepath is valid : C:\Program Files\Datatex\Amethyst\FTP\,
    5. Check that the IIS service is started:
      Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services >
      Local Computer > FTP Sites > FTP Server Description > Right Click > Start
    6. Untick the 'Allow Anonymous Connection' option
    7. The folder the account is pointing to,
      make sure that the user amethyst has full access to the folder
      C:\Program Files\Datatex\Amethyst\FTP
    8. To test ftp on local machine is working:
      Start > Run > CMD > Enter >

      cd "C:\Program Files\Datatex\Amethyst" > Enter

      Type FTP -i 127.0.0.1

      You will get a prompt

      Connected to 127.0.0.1.
      220 Microsoft FTP Service
      User (127.0.0.1:(none)):

      Username is : amethyst
      password is : amt

      mput *.exe

      When it is done the prompt will show

      FTP>

      Type : bye > Enter

      Make sure that there are .exe files in C:\Program Files\Amethyst\FTP
