Overview
When installing a new archive drive AMETHYST expects a brand
new unformatted drive. If not, it is unable to initialize it.
However if you format the drive as FAT32 under Windows,
you do not need to initialize it via the AMETHYST webadmin.
Herewith step to install a new drive:
1. Shutdown AMETHYST down via webadmin
2. Turn off power to server
3. Insert new harddrive in tray and removable drive into server bracket
4. Lock removable drive into server using key
5. Power the server up
6. Check if all the drives is picked up in the BIOS. (When the
server boots up it will show all the drives on the main screen)
7. Do a "Test connection" and "Check available disk space" to see if drive is detected.
Please Note: The error message if it cannot find a blank drive is always
"Error: Drive is already initialized and may have data".
This message applies to:
- the drive physically not being there,
- the physical drive not being 'blank'
(meaning not as AMETHYST expects - unformatted drive) or
- not able to detect the physical drive.
We have a tool "DriveInfo" to list the drives and configuration.
If the removeable drive was not inserted before the server was
rebooted it will not be detected (see steps listed above).
If present it will display how the system expects the jumpers to be set.
