When can TOPAZ lose data?

Postby Belinda Frick » Tue Nov 30, 2010 10:10 am

Overview:

TOPAZ receives the call data from PABX3.
PABX3 receives the rawdata from the PABX unit via the comport of the PC,
and translates it using the plugin selected in PABX3,
to create a data file to import into TOPAZ.

Once the call data is imported into TOPAZ, this pip file
is moved to the OLDPABXPIP folder. These pip files can be
imported into TOPAZ again, if needed.
Once data is received via the comport and PABX3 is set
to create a rawdata file (and the correct end of line character is
selected), the call data is written to a text file, which can
be imported via PABX3 into TOPAZ if need be.

As described above, TOPAZ "stores" call data as backup (rawdata file
and pip files in oldpabxpip folder), if database files needs to
be re-created.

The only delete facility in TOPAZ is that of call data, which
can only be done manually with the TOPAZ program, and the user
has to be logged in as ADMIN into the Master TOPAZ.

Problem scenarios:

Problem 1: Power-failure:

It can cause file corruption.
As with any software, if it is buzy writing to a file and the
PC or power is switched off, the transaction is not complete
and therefore can cause corruption.
If the PABX3 prf file corrupts it will give an error:
error: cannot find :"c\program files\datatex...... ?.dll"
The comport can blow.
Even if PABX3 is running, it cannot receive any call data.
Suggestion 1:
Install a UPS for the TOPAZ PC.

Problem 2: Call Data Capturing Software:

If PABX3 is shut down, it will not record any calls.
Suggestion 2:
Install a buffer, to capture calls from the PABX unit.
If PABX3 is closed, then the buffer will store the call data
received from the PABX unit. Once PABX3 is opened again, it will
receive the call data from the buffer (keeping in mind the
capacity of the buffer).
Monitor access to the TOPAZ PC.
