The sound of my ONYX recording is soft on playback

Overview

Please check and ensure that the phone in use is not soft. You can disconnect the ONYX
recorder (little black box connected to your phone) and make a test call to check the volume
levels on the phone.

When installing the ONYX software:
ONYX records the sound it receives from the phone. Some phone models have volume settings
on the side or underneath, make sure that it is set loud, but not that the sound distorts
when the recording is made.
When the ONYX software is already in use, it records using the USBtap:
In Control Panel -> Sound and Audio devices: click on the Audio tab -> Sound Recording section,
select the USB Audio CODEC as the Recording option.
When you listen to the ONYX recording, it uses the PC soundcard therefore:
In Control Panel -> Sound and Audio devices: click on the Audio tab -> Sound Playback section,
select the PC's default Soundcard (e.g. RealtekAC97Audio) as the Playback option.
NB: Check that the volume levels of the PC is set loud enough. This can also effect the sound playback.
If you are using Windows Media Player to listen to the ONYX recording, ensure the volume is ON (not muted)
and that it is adjusted as required.
