AMETHYST agent disp as 'DOWN' / 'CHECK', Cannot select props

Postby John Richard Procter » Thu May 05, 2011 1:07 pm

Overview:

The information displayed on the properties screen in AMETHYST
Administrator, is loaded from the USBClient.ini file of the
agent. If this file is not accessable via the network the
information cannot be displayed or modified. The agent must
have a status of 'STANDBY' to edit it.

Check the following:

1.The server pings the client every couple of minutes. If a ping
fails once, the status is changed to check. If the next ping also
fails it is changed to down and if it is successful, it goes back
to standby.

The AMETHYST server must be able to find the PC on the network.

ALSO SEE: AMETHYST: The status of the recording device.

2.Check if the PC of the 'DOWN' agent can connect to the AMETHYST Server.
Ask the IT department to sort out the network issues.

ALSO SEE: How do I see if a connection was made?
ALSO SEE: How do I ping a computer?

3.If the status is 'DOWN' then there is a connection problem between AMETHYST and the
USBClient PC. This can happen if the PC was shutdown, rebooted, the tap unplugged or the
USBClient software shutdown.

Please note that if the PC is set to auto-update Windows from the internet, it can re-boot
at 03h00 in the morning (as part of the Windows update).

4.The Windows lock option (Windows key + L) will not cause the 'DOWN' critical e-mail to be sent.

5.Check in the USBClient.ini that the AMETHYST server IP is used.
It has been noted that the server was configure as 'GEM' where the name is in fact 'AMETHYST'.
Use the IP address to avoid problems like this.

Code: Select all
[SERVER]
SERVERIP=192.168.15.6
SERVERPORT=27000
FTPSERVERIP=amethyst

Under agent names make sure that the Windows login name is not duplicated.
ALSO SEE: Under 'Configure Virtual Extension' the User Name appears more than once

Use the 'Re-direct IP of server' option on the AMETHYST webadmin.
