Print 'Departemental Analysis by Extension' report, CPU usage is 100%.

It is more likely that the printer and printer driver will cause the speed problem
than the PC specs. The 'Departemental Analysis by Extension' report is huge and
a dot matrix printer is very slow.

It will be advisable to have a printer with memory upgrade possiblities.

ALSO SEE: Can TOPAZ print to a dot matrix printer?

If you cannot upgrade the printer, try the following (keeping in mind that a dot
matrix printer will always be slow):

  1. Make sure your PC is up to the specification for TOPAZ.
    ALSO SEE:PC requirements to run TOPAZ.
  2. Make sure that you are using the latest version of TOPAZ. This will sort out all
    known issues. Update available on the website, http://www.datatex.co.za -> downloads -> software upgrades -> topaz
  3. Make sure you are using the latest version of the printer driver.
  4. If your PC has a second hard drive, create the tmptopaz folder on that drive. This
    will free up some space on your system drive, which might help.
  • Close TOPAZ.
  • Delete the folder tmptopaz, location: 'C:\tmptopaz'.
  • Edit the 'topaz.ini' in 'C:\Program Files\Datatex\Topaz'.
  • Change the default entry, 'TMPTOPAZPATH=C:\tmptopaz' to point to your drive.
    For example:
    [GENERAL]
    TMPTOPAZPATH=C:\tmptopaz
    to
    [GENERAL]
    TMPTOPAZPATH=D:\tmptopaz
  • In this example your tmptopaz folder will now be created on the D drive.
    Please open TOPAZ and check on the D drive for the folder tmptopaz.
