UTMS Buffer not detected when TNG starts up

Postby Belinda Frick » Mon Nov 15, 2010 1:35 pm

Overview

The UTMS buffer requires a minimum of 3.3volts for it basic fuctionality
(voltage is received by the PC and/or PABX). It receives this via the
handshaking connection on the standard cable supplied with the UTMS buffer.
The comport must give at least 4 volt (0.7 volt is lost via the connection).

If you are using a USB to serial converter ensure that you get the
required voltage. Usually the USB port give 5 volt, the converter to
serial might influence this what the buffer actually receives.

Power outages can cause the buffer to not receive the adequate voltage.
When TNG starts up again, it does not detect the buffer due to the lack
of power and therefore TNG does not collect call data.

One way for TNG to start collecting data is if you plug the data
line from the PABX into the buffer and restart TNG. TNG will then detect
the buffer and then starts reading in data again over the TCP port. However
this will only work if the PABX also has a serial port.

If no serial port is available on the PABX you can use 12V DC adapter
for the buffer. Please contact our Sales Department on 021-5924033 for pricing.

Please note: Once power has been restored, the PC restarted and
the TNG service is running it will not detect the buffer unless it
receives the minimum required voltage.

NB: It is always suggested to place the PC on a UPS especially now
that power failures are such a regular occurrence.
